Jazz originated from New Orleans amongst the black population as the bequest of slave trade that mainly found the city the first port of call . The development of jazz in America was rather a slow process but ultimately growing in to the current famous jazz music. It has its roots from the African slaves taken from their homes to America.

Jazz clubs, speakeasies, and stage shows were encouraged to have flappers employed at these establishments, in order to appeal to the "liberated" youth culture of the 1920s. Women also found positions the advertising, cosmetic, and clothing industries, all of which are related to the jazz culture of the time.

Post-war depression and the break-up of the Big Bands brought a focus on the smaller ensemble sound and the emancipation of Jazz styles. Risky ventures into improvisation gave Jazz critical cache with scholars that the Blues lacked. Perhaps the most innovative, forward discoveries in style took place at this time. The appearance of the traditional style of Jazz music and dance appeared during the early 1900s in the city of New Orleans.

The history of jazz proves that black musicians are the inventors and innovators of jazz, and that has been a major accomplishment of blacks.
